Geology - Essay Example This then resulted to the formation of the sun and planets that make up the solar system (Seeds 80). This has been supported by the ratio of the aluminum isotopes found in the meteorites that were formed when the molecular cloud collapsed. The scientists came up with a model that explains the unusual levels that the isotope contained (Seeds 79). They stated that the levels could have been because the isotopes were being fed in the molecular cloud at the time the supernova event was occurring. The seismic waves caused by the supernova event were hot in nature thus when they collided with the cold molecular cloud of gas resulted to it colliding. This consequently led to the formation of the solar system. As it is seen the death of the star that was caused by the seismic waves that were a result of the supernova event made way for the solar system to be formed. This helps us to understand the fact that the solar system came into existence as a result of the death of a star (Seeds

Children of the Camps Essay -- Holocaust European History Nazi Germany
Children of the Camps During the Holocaust, millions of Jews, gypsies, and members of other groups were persecuted and murdered by Nazi occupied Europe. However, many forget to acknowledge that among these were children. It may never be known exactly how many children were murdered but it is said that as many as some 1.5 million children may have fell victim to the Nazi party. Although children were not a main target of the Naziââ¬â¢s violence, they did fall subject to persecution along with their parents. Jewish children were first exposed to persecution in school. Many of their friends who were not Jewish began not socializing with them and even began to treat them in prejudice ways. This was soon followed with the announcement that, ââ¬Å"German Jewish children were prohibited from attending German schoolsâ⬠(www.mtsu.edu/.baustin/children.html). The life of children had quickly become as torn apart as their parents. However, there were more efforts to help the children escape the grips of the Nazi rule. Before 1939, several thousand children were able to escape in ââ¬Å"Kindertransportsâ⬠to the Netherlands, Great Britain, Palestine, and the United Statesâ⬠(www.mtsu.edu/.baustin/children.html). Those who were not able to escape were placed in ghettos and transit camps. These ghettos and transit camps served as the foreground to the death and slave labor camps that would soon follow. It was written in a Jewish diary,â⬠A Jewish ghetto in the traditional sense is impossible; certainly a closed ghetto is unconceivableâ⬠(Dwork, p.155). Infact many of these ghettos were ââ¬Å"closedâ⬠meaning that the Jews that occupied the ghettos were forbidden to leave the area. Within the ghettos, there was belittlement of life. The segregated streets often had no working stores and closed places of worship. This left the isolated inhabitants subject to starvation, disease, and early death. Next came the death and slave labor camps. These were most often the last stop before they were killed. Upon entering a camp, the Jews were separated. They were separated into women, children, working age, men, and the old. Furthermore, the children were separated into three age groups: ââ¬Å"(1) infants and toddlers up to age 6; (2) young children ages 7 to 12; and (3) adolescents from 13 to 18 years oldâ⬠(www.mtssu.edu/.baustin/children.html). Women, children who fall in the first age group... ...own on the benches all around and were cheerful and happy that they had been for once allowed out of Neuengamme. The children were completely unsuspectingâ⬠(www.auschwitz.dk/bullenhuser.html). The children were told that they would be receiving a vaccination. In reality, they were injected with morphine and then hung on hooks on the wall to die. However, the children were so light from malnutrition and disease that their own weight would not strangle them. Instead, they hung the children two at a time so that there was enough weight to kill them. It was later noted, ââ¬Å" none of the children criedâ⬠(www.auschwitz.dk/bullenhuser.html). As one can imagine, all children who lived thru the Holocaust, were subject to inhuman conditions. Life was stripped from them and in return handed a small piece of hell that they could call their own. Though there were those who were fortunate enough to witness better days, some were left with that small piece of hell as their final destiny. Whether it was the children of the ghettos and camps or the tortured souls of the Bullenhuser School children, it may be the cries of the children that are most often unheard in the story of the Holocaust.

Sexism In The Gaming Industries - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 715 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/06/24 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Sexism Essay Did you like this example? Playing video games is a fun way to interact with friends or even make new ones. Often men and women will not get along because of the common stereotypes in our society. Today many men like to claim that they are at a higher power than women, these things are not true and can be very offending to some people. This is why today we are trying to eliminate many of these stereotypes to have a more friendly video game environment. First and foremost the percentages of male to female gamers has always been vastly different. According to Kim Gittleson at BBC News today only about 48% of online gamers are female, and very few of them play competitively. Both genders can be equally as good as one another in competitive circumstances, it just depends on how long they have been playing. It can also depend on if they have ever played anything like it before. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Sexism In The Gaming Industries" essay for you Create order In addition to this people are often judged by their rank and skill level rather than their personality. Frequently females are assumed to be a bad player if their rank is lower than others. This is another stereotype that is incorrect because all player start off at the same rank, but some players have worked their way up higher than others, so their rank is better. Even out of all the professional competitive players only 1% of them are female. Another problem in our society today is people being harassed, this is one of the most underestimated topics when it comes to sexism in gaming. In addition to this many women in the gaming industries have to face the day-to-day challenge of being threatened with yelling, murder, and much worse. Other players will resort to yelling if a female does not do the correct thing when playing, even if the player is doing everything correctly there is still some unnecessary judgment involved. On the other hand the game designers themselves can be sexist. This is because many people have begun to notice that the female body shapes are all the same, slim and attractive. But the mens body types vary from strong and muscular to small and clever. Some people are offended by the lack of body types and have asked for more of a variety, but not much has changed. Equally important is the sexist dialogue between male and female characters. Many games have interactions between a male and female character and most of the time the male is rude or tries to flirt with the female. Not to mention the way that the majority of female characters are portrayed, they are usually either completely helpless or are rude and self centered. It is very rare to see a strong and independent female character in many games these days. That aside, the statistics between men and women are not very different as well. According to Michele Zorrilla a study made in 2007 shows that men do have better hand eye coordination than women do when playing, but women are much better at strategizing and planning ahead. When it comes to deciding who is better it always depends on the game. Correspondingly men are more likely to rush through a game unlike women who are more likely to take their time. Since men have better hand eye coordination they are generally better at an first person shooter (FPS) while females are great at strategizing, so a puzzle or quest game would be easy for them. Either way it all depends on the amount of time the person has been playing. Factoring in other genres of video games, out of the many sport games players only 2% of them are female. Another shocking percentage is that only 7% of gamers are female when it comes to an Fps. In the big picture males populate most of the Fps and MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role play game) games. Overall both genders are equally as good as one another. Nobody should ever be judged by their rank or skill level, but them as a person. Sexism is just something we cant completely eliminate from our society but we can make it better by reporting it or changing the subject as soon as you can. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect no matter what their gender is.

The s Theory Of Personality - 747 Words
Avoidant attachment of a male present in a romantic relationship (Male super ego and madonna-whore complex) The importance of child-parent attachment in Freud s theory of personality is best captured in his characterization of the infant-mother relationship (Richters Waters 1991, Brogaard 2015). Freud (as explained by Richters Waters 1991) described socialization as the process through which a child s natural erotic and aggressive instincts are gradually brought under the control of the superego. Freud believed that children identify with the superegos as well as the situational behaviors of their parents (Richters Waters 1991). Identification process, according to Freud, is rooted in the child s initial total dependence onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In many cases as the mother withdraws her constant attention, interaction, and affection (avoidant attachment) the boy responds by acquiring the role the mother by becoming his own source of support and comfort (Richters Waters 1991). ââ¬Å"In Freud s terms, the child gives up the mother as a love object, and incorporates her in his superego (ego ideal)â⬠(Richters Waters 199, 3) A subgroup of men with an avoidant attachment style suffers from a condition known as the Madonna-whore complex ((Brogaard 2015). The avoidant attachment style is characterized by an inability to form long-term committed relationships. It is premised on fear of intimacy, rejection and abandonment that arose in early childhood as explained by Brogaard (2015). Brogaard analyzed that the complex occurs as a result of maltreatment by the mother and fear of incest as interpreted by Freud. ââ¬Å"When a mother abandons, neglects, verbally, emotionally or physically abuses or is emotionally distant from her infant or young child, the child feels so hurt that he will eventually repress many of the memories associated with the motherââ¬â¢s behavior.â⬠(Brogaard 2015). For management of traumatic childhood experiences, the avoidant child will stay away from intimacy and situations that can cause the memories and the negative emotions to reappear (Brogaard 2015). However as explained by Brogaard (2015), subconsciously the child will be looking for
